Abstract
Thiophene 1-dioxide (I) reacts in Diels-Alder reactions as either a dieue or a dienophile. With 1,2-dimethylenecyelo-hexane, it reacted as a reactive dienophile. As an electron-deficient diene, it was not very reactive. Thiophene 1-dioxide (I) did not react with inaleic anhydride but added to acetylenedicarboxylic ester and to indene in low yields. © 1954, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
