Abstract
This thesis is Octyl benzene as starting material, through friedel crafts acylation, Friedel-Crafts acylation reaction, hydrogen transfer reduction, dehydration of the alcohol to alkene, octyl styrene active hydrophobic monomer. Reaction condition for n-octyl acetophenone is followed: molar ratio of anhydrous aluminum chloride, acetic anhydride and n-octyl benzene is 3:2:1, temperature is 25 â, the reaction time is 5 h. When the reaction started, the reactants dissolved in dichloromethane at 0 â. Reaction condition for n-octyl benzyl alcohol is followed: molar ratio of n-octyl acetophenone and Sodium borohydride is 1:3, temperature is 60 â, the reaction time is 2 h. When the reaction started, monomers dissolved in methanol at 0 â. Reaction condition for n-octyl styrene is followed: molar ratio of 1-methyl-n-octyl to benzyl alcohol and methyl acid monohydrate is 1:2, it is gradually heated to 160 â, monomer dissolved in toluene when the initial reaction processed. © 2016, Editorial Office of Speciality Petrochemicals.
