Abstract
A rare actinomycete strain C983 was isolated from a soil sample collected in Luojiashan of Wuhan City, Hubei Province. Aerial mycelium is absent. Spherical, subspherical or pyriform sporangia are formed on the vegetative mycelium, 5~10 x 10~15 μm in size. The sporangiospores with tuft of polar flagela are spherical or subspherical, motile. The color of vegetative mycelium and soluble pigment are pH sensitive, usually Orange-pink to Anthracene-violet. Cell wall type II, cell sugar pattern D. Phospholipid type P-II, GC mol% 69.9. This strain produces new antitumor antibiotics 1,8-dihydroxyanthraquinone and 1,4,8-trihydroxyanthraquinone. Strain C983 is different from known species of antinoplanes reported and named Actinoplanes luojiashanensis n. sp.
