Abstract
The methylsulfmyl carbanion (CH3SOCH2¯) is a unique methylating agent of the ylide type. Quinoline, isoquinoline, anthracene, phenanthrene, acridine, phenanthridine, and benzoxazole are converted to methyl derivatives by reaction with the methylsulfinylcarbanion in dimethyl sulfoxide solution at 70°. © 1966, American Chemical Society.
