Abstract
1. The background in the IR spectra of highly unsaturated polymers appears not as a result of structural peculiarities, but rather only as a result of an insufficient degree of pulverization of the sample. 2. During heat treatment of poly[1,2-di(4â²-ethynylphenyl)ethane] up to temperatures of 200°, there are no significant changes; at the temperature 200-300° there is a cross-polymerization on account of cleavage of triple bonds; further heating of the polymer to 550-600 ° leads (beginning with 450°) to closing of the phenanthrene ring from the diphenylethane part of the basic unit. 3. The change in the electric conductivity by 20 orders of magnitude when the polymer is heated to 550-600° is explained by the formation of a fragment of the basic unit in the phenanthrene ring. © 1969 Consultants Bureau.
