Abstract
Chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols are very important pollutants generated in municipal solid waste incinerators, but little attention has been paid to the absorption of chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols by fly ash. A quantitative detection method for chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols in fly ash and other solids is proposed using ultrasound extraction combined with GC-ECD and LC-MS/MS. The experimentally optimized pretreatment process is as follows: a few drops of concentrated sulfuric acid are added to the fly ash, and, using n-hexane/acetone (1 : 1) as the extraction solvent, the solution is concentrated to 2 mL by rotary evaporation. This method leads to high recovery rates of tri-, tetra-, penta-, and hexachlorobenzenes and all chlorophenols. Real fly ash samples from municipal solid waste incinerators were investigated using this method. The concentrations of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetrachlorophenols in the fly ashes were below the quantitative detection limits, while the pentachlorophenol concentration and the tri-, tetra-, penta-, and hexachlorobenzene concentrations varied from 5~11 ng·g-1 and 3~70 ng·g-1, respectively. © 2017, Science Press.
