Abstract
1. The results of x-ray diffraction analysis indicate the presence of structural ordering in the oligoarylenes studied, which is a maximum in the case of polyphenylene and thermal polyanthracene. 2. Broadline NMR data indicate noncoplanar structures of the oligoarylenes, which increases on passing from polyphenylene to polynaphthalene and polyanthracene. 3. The results of x-ray diffraction analysis and NMR spectroscopy confirm the considerably greater regularity of the thermal polyanthracene structure in comparison with those synthesized in the presence of AlCl3 and CuCl2. © 1970 Consultants Bureau.
