1. The effect of thiophene on the catalytic activity of an industrial aluminium-molybdenum catalyst in the dehydrogenation of cyclohexane and the dehydrocyclization of n-hexane has been investigated. 2. When thiophene is present, the deactivation of the aluminium-molybdenum catalyst proceeds much more rapidly than it does in runs with the pure hydrocarbons and the shape of the poisoning curves in the first parts of a run is similar to that of the curves obtained previously for platinum-aluminium oxide catalysts. 3. By means of a radiometric analysis it has been established that from the total amount of sulfur fed 28.1% is deposited on the catalyst, ∼62.5% is eliminated in the form of hydrogen sulfide and 7.9% is contained in the liquid product. © 1962 Consultants Bureau.
