Results of an experimental study are reported in which **1**3C-NMR spectroscopy was employed to study the structure of copolymers obtained from furan and maleic anhydride by different methods. The compounds studied were the following: furan-maleic anhydride copolymer prepared in acetone, furan-maleic anhydride copolymer prepared in benzene, furan-maleic anhydride Diels-Alder adduct (exo-7-oxabicyclo left bracket 2. 2. 1 right bracket hexane-5,6-dicarboxylic anhydride, and the hydrogenated adduct (exo-7-oxabicyclo left bracket 2. 2. 1 right bracket hexane-5,6-dicarboxylic anhydride). Experimental data are presented and discussed. It is demonstrated that the copolymers formed were not 1:1 alternating copolymers, but homopolymers resulting from Diels-Alder adduct of the exo form. These results are in agreement with previous finding by Butler et al and confirmed by Gaylord et al.
