The antiinflammatory activity of hexane (leaves and stems) and dichloromethane extracts from P. aduncum L. were studied. Acetic acid (0.1 ml of a 0.1 N solution/10 g body weight) given i.p. to albine mice was used to promote abdominal contortion. The extracts were given orally at dose of 50 mg/kg and indometacine, used as reference drug, at the dose of 5 mg/kg. Results were obtained as means of the trated group (4-8). The Student test was employed to validate the data. All tested extracts showed excelent results (> 90% inhibition of contortion). The hexane extract of stems was the most effective reducing 93, 88% of the contortions. These results are in agreement with the P. aduncum popular uses.
