Abstract
Alkylation of benzene with decane on silica · alumina was carried out in a fixed bed type apparatus with a continuous flow system at atmospheric pressure. The products and the reaction path were studied and these were compared with those in the case of alkylation of benzene with polyethylene (PE) carried out in an autoclave. The yield of liquids was 96 wt% to decane introduced at 450oC. The composition of the liquid product were mainly cumene and n-propylbenzene (15 wt%), ethylbenzene (11 wt%), and toluene (9 wt%). This product distribution was the same order as was in the case of using PE as the alkylating agent. Using hexane or heptane as the alkylating agent, the alkylation gave the same relative ratios of 8. SPACE. For this alkylation on HY type zeolite, the composition of alkylbenzenes was in the reverse order to that in the case of silica · alumina. The reaction might proceed mainly in the following way; namely olefins were formed through the cracking of the alkylating agent and those olefins reacted catalytically with benzene to form alkylbenzenes. © 1986, The Japan Petroleum Institute.
