Hydroxyapatites (HA) with various strontium (Sr) contents were successfully synthesized by a facile hydrothermal method. This kind of Sr-doped hydroxyapatite (Sr-doped HA) was a green and environment-friendly phosphor material which had excellent photoluminescence (PL) performance without containing toxic substance or expensive rare earth elements. The PL intensity of Sr-doped HA with different Sr content was first investigated in detail. The results showed that the PL intensity increased with the decreasing of Sr content in the Sr-doped HA samples. The as-obtained 20%Sr-HA had the highest PL intensity in the five samples. The possible luminescent mechanisms of the different PL intensity of the Sr-doped hydroxyapatites were discussed by structure analysis via Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR) and X-ray diffraction spectrum (XRD).
