Abstract
A female patient with androgenetic alopecia was initially treated with minoxidil 2â Š% solution and developed an itchy scalp erythema within 15 days. The patch test showed polyvalent contact sensibilization but was negative to the components of the minoxidil preparations propylene glycol, butyl hydroxytoluene (E321), cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol as well as to minoxidil 5â Š% and 2â Š% solution, minoxidil 5â Š% foam and fluprednidene 21-Acetate/estradiol solution. However, a prolongated occlusive test for 48â Šh with minoxidil 5â Š% and 2â Š% solution was positive, while a reaction to minoxidil 5â Š% foam and fluprednidene 21-Acetate/estradiol solution was not observed. The lymphocyte transformation test for minoxidil was negative. Therapy with minoxidil 5â Š% foam and fluprednidene 21-Acetate/estradiol solution could be continued for 15 months, after which the patient discontinued the treatment due to a new local reaction. © 2021 Georg Thieme Verlag.
