Abstract
Equilibrium data for mixtures of N-hexane and benzene have been determined. Pure N-hexane has been obtained from petroleum by distillation through a tall column and removal of the remaining benzene in the distillate by nitration. It has also been obtained from a mixture of N-hexane and benzene by distillation with tert-butyl alcohol. Contrary to the evidence reported in the literature, it has been found that N-hexane and benzene do not form a constant-boiling mixture, but that enrichment of the vapor practically ceases at concentrations below 3.5 mole per cent benzene. © 1933, American Chemical Society.
