Abstract
Tranexamic acid, trans-4-aminomethylcyclo-hexane carboxylic acid, is one of antiplasmin drugs. Eleven patients with melasma were treated with oral tranexamic acid 0. 75â1. 5 g/day. In all cases, hypermelanosis was decreased in a few months after the onset of the medication without adverse reaction. The recurrence of hypermelanosis occurred in a few months after the cessation of the medication. So the effect of the tranexamic acid for melasma is excellent but reversible. The reason why tranexamic acid is effective for melasma is unknown. © 1988, Meeting of Osaka Dermatological Association. All rights reserved.
