1. It has been established that nickel and red phosphorus powders react with each other under combustion conditions, with the formation of nickel phosphides. In a mixture of composition corresponding to the Ni-Ni3P eutectic the rate of reaction is a maximum 2. The relationship between phosphorus losses and the composition of the starting material was determined. With mixtures containing up to 20 wt.% P, phosphorus losses do not exceed 2-3 wt.% 3. The method described enables a practically pure phosphide Ni2P to be produced. © 1979 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
