Abstract
Efficacy of imidacloprid was studied against termite in sugarcane in comparison with fenvalerate dust (2.0 and 2.5 kg/ha), endosulfan dust (2.0 and 2.5 kg/ha), HCH dust (2.5 kg/ha) and lindane EC (2.5 kg/ha). Imidacloprid was applied by dipping the setts in 0.1 , 0.15 and 0.2% solution of insecticide in water for one minute and furrow application by spraying insecticide solution (1875 litres/ha) @ 200 g/ha. Besides termite control, percentage germination and yield were also recorded. At harvest, residues of imidacloprid were estimated by HPLC in sugarcane juice, leaves and soil from residual toxicity and health hazard point of view. Imidacloprid furrow treatment and sett dipping treatment gave the best control of termite followed by lindane, endosulfan, fenvalerate and HCH dust. Sugarcane yield was also significantly higher in imidacloprid treated plots as compared to other treatments and control. No residues of imidacloprid were detected in any sample of sugarcane juice, leaf and soil.
