Abstract
Reports of resistance to various insecticides in H. armigera have proved to be the major stumbling block in attainment of high production and productivity of Cotton in India. Due to unsatisfactory levels of pest management offered by conventional insecticides these days, there is a renewed interest in the farmers about the new molecules available in the market. Thus, the present contribution reports about the comparative efficacy of representative insecticides from various groups of insecticides at the recommended doses against American bollworm, H. armigera. Application of new chemistries, viz., Spinosad and Indoxacarb proved to be the superior treatments. These treatments not only restricted the larval population count per pldnt (0.3 and 0.4 larva/plant, seven days after application of treatments, respectively as against 2.3 larva/plant in untreated control) but also translated info lower fruiting body damage [4.97 and 6.05% square and flower damage besides 1.71 and 4.76% green boll damage, respectively as against 35.26% (square and flower) and 23.58% (green boll) in untreated control, respectively] and higher yield of seed Cotton (17.80 q/ha and 17.13 q/ha, respectively). Rest of the treatments can be arranged in descending order of their efficacy as Methomyl (16.71 q/ha), Quinalphos (16.64 q/ha), Endosulfan (16.32 q/ha), Profenofos + Cypermethrin (16.13 q/ha), Bt (15.94 q/ha), Cypermethrin (15.71 q/ha), HaNPV (13.47 q/ha), NSKE (11.47 q/ha) besides 7.48 q/ha in untreated control.
