Abstract
If relentless exploitation and degradation of nature and its resources continue, it would not belong before we start experiencing the serious consequences of global warming and environmental deterioration. In this study, a pilot-scale AA/O-MFC reactor was constructed to treat domestic sewage in rural area of Shandong Province. The stability of the pilot-scale AA/O-MFC process was tested. Nitrogen and phosphorous removal experiment of MFC were conducted by incorporating split continuous-flow membraneless MFC into the AA/O process. The COD, ammonia nitrogen and TN removal rate of MFC is significantly better than that of AA/O system. We discovered that the average output current of the AA/O-MFC system reaches 17.8 mA with an output power density of 0.0382 W/m(3). This adds difficulties to storage and transfer of electricity produced by MFC in the actual sewage treatment process.
