Abstract
New phosphorus-based flame retardants are helping composites pass the stringent safety standards in the railway industry. Clariant's brand name Exolit provides halogen-free environmentally friendly flame retardants which can be used in epoxy resin laminates, intumescent gel-coats, and in combination with red phosphorus. The European market for reinforced plastics in the railway sector is expected to double in the next 5 years.
