The heat capacity of fluorotrichloromethane has been measured from 14°K. to room temperature. The melting point of fluorotrichloromethane is 162.68 ± 0.05°K. (0°C. = 273.16°K.), the heat of fusion is 1648 ± 2 cal./mole, and the heat of vaporization is 6025 ± 6 cal./mole at 290.40°K. and 602.5 mm. The vapor pressures are given by the relation log10 p (Int. mm. Hg) = 18.54101 — (1841.72/T) — 3.82423 log10 T in the range 236-293°K. The normal boiling point of fluorotrichloromethane, as calculated from this vapor pressure equation, is 296.82°K. The entropy of the ideal gas from the calorimetric data is 73.58 ± 0.1 cal. deg.-1 mole-1 and 74.07 ± 0.1 cal. deg.-1 mole-1 at 1 atm., 290.40°K. and 298.16°K, respectively. These values agree to within 0.02 cal. deg.-1 mole-1 with those computed from molecular data. The entropy of the liquid is 53.92 ± 0.1 cal. deg.-1mole-1 at298.16°K. and 1 atm. © 1941, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
