Abstract
1. A study has been made of the transformations undergone by cyclohexane, methylcyclohexane, and toluene at 450° and at 500° in contact with activated Troshkov clay. 2. It has been shown that the degree of conversion of cycloalkanes increases with rise in molecular weight: at 500°, it is 11-12% for cyclohexane and 30-32% for methylcyclohexane. 3. In the products obtained by the catalytic treatment of cyclohexane, not only benzen has been found, but also its homologs, together with methylcyclopentane and unsaturated hydrocarbons. 4. Under the same conditions, methylcyclohexane yields toluene, m- and p-xylenes, and other benzene homologs. Other products are dimethylcyclopentane paraffins - probably formed by fission of the dimethylcyclopentane ring - and unsaturated hydrocarbons. 1954 Consultants Bureau, Inc.
