Abstract
Infrared spectral data show that S16,16O2 and S18,18O2 exchange oxygen rapidly with each other in solution in CCl4 or cyclohexane and in the gas phase. Gaseous SO2 exchanges oxygen with Pyrex more slowly. Catalysis by water of exchange in solution and catalysis by Pyrex of exchange in the gas phase are not rigorously excluded but neither is direct exchange via a dimeric intermediate or activated complex. 1964, American Chemical Society.
