Abstract
1. A study has been made of the dehydration of alcohols in the presence of iron phosphate using cyclohexanol, hexanol-1, butanol-1, and propanol-2. 2. At 380°-400°, the yields of unsaturated products reach 95%, the activity of the contact remaining good even after having operated for a long time without regeneration. 3. The unsaturated products of the dehydration quickly isomerize, the degree of isomerization increasing with increase in temperature and with increase in the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. 4. From kinetic data, the apparent activation energy for the dehydration of propanol-2 has been calculated to be e{open}=21.5 kcal/M and for the isomerization of cyclohexane, e{open}=9.2 kcal/M. 5. A proposed mechanism is given for the contact transformations. 1963 Consultants Bureau Enterprises Inc.
