Abstract
1. The reaction of catalytic decomposition of diazoacetic esters (DAE) in the presence of cyclohexene was investigated in solutions of tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, and cyclohexane. 2. The relative yield of the adduct of carbethoxycarbene to cyclohexene is twice as high when tetrahydrofuran and dioxane are used as in cyclohexane solution. 3. It was hypothesized that the direction of the reaction is determined by the entropy factor, determined by the degree of solvation of the transition states of the reactions of carbene with cyclohexene and diazoacetic ester. 1968 Consultants Bureau.
