Abstract
The critical temperatures and densities of twelve substances were measured using a modified sealed ampoule technique. A sample of each substance was sealed in a glass ampoule and was heated rapidly in an electric furnace. The temperature-time history of the fluid and the temperatures and positions of successive disappearances and reappearances of the vapor-liquid meniscus were recorded. Extrapolation techniques were then used to obtain estimates of the critical temperature and density of the pure fluids. The measured critical properties, together with estimates of their accuracy, are reported in this work.
