Abstract
The purpose of this communication is to demonstrate that experimentally significant excess heat capacities for blends can be obtained by careful use of differential scanning calorimetry. Results are presented for two different polymer blend systems: poly( alpha -methyl styrene-co-acrylonitrie) and polymethyl methacrylate, and bisphenol A polycarbonate and a cyclohexane dimethanol copolyester. Results are interpreted in terms of basic thermodynamics and recent theories. The observed values cannot be explained by the modern equation of state theories if the interaction parameter is assumed independent of temperature.
