The availability of a new family of fluorinated diols has led to interest in incorporation of these monomers into polymers which might have interesting surface properties. Polymerization reactions between members of this family of diols and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) were investigated. The resultant polymers have glass transitions near 20°C, form films easily, and could be good materials for coatings. The surface free energy values fall between those for polyolefins and polyperflouorolefins, and the surface probably consists of both perfluoroalkane and alkane segments.
