The use of cerium (1 wt%) as a doping element of alumina in Pt/CeO2/Al2O3 and Pt/CeZrO2/Al2O3 catalysts for the partial oxidation of the methane reaction was investigated. Catalysts characterization was accomplished through X-ray diffraction (XRD), BET surface area and temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The results showed that the use of cerium as a doping element propitiated the maintenance of a higher value of BET surface area. XRD analysis showed the formation of a solid solution between ceria and zirconia. The dehydrogenation of cyclohexane reaction rates showed that platinum dispersions were between 51 and 65%. After 24 hours of reaction methane conversions and hydrogen selectivities were higher for the catalysts supported on doped alumina.
