Abstract
A study was conducted to demonstrate a detailed small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) investigation of the solution structure of macrocyles and their aggregates. The of scattering these macrocyles was analyzed in cyclohexane at 45 °C and the molecular weight of the particle in solution was obtained as 6900 g/mol from the absolute forward scattering intensity. The molecular was found to correspond significantly with the theoretical molecular weight of 6946 g/mol without aggregating the macrocycles. The q dependence of the scattering intensity was theoretically modeled by a stiff macrocycle with freely rotating phenyl groups and side chains. The formation of aggregates was observed by an increase of the solution viscosity when the macrocycle solution in cyclohexane was cooled below 40 °C.
