Abstract
This paper presents results of an experimental program which was undertaken to improve procedures and equipment used in the production of paraffins from diesel fuel fractions by adsorption techniques. Data are presented on an investigation of the process indices in the production of liquid paraffins from feedstocks with various contents of n-alkanes, using zeolites different in adsorption properties; these studies were directed toward a determination of the feasibility of increasing the feed capacity of the unit. The work was performed in a pilot unit with various ratios between the lengths of the individual stages in the cycle, under conditions reproducing the operation of commercial units. It is concluded that in order to increase the output of high-purity liquid paraffins in units for the adsorptive recovery of straight-chain paraffins from diesel fuel cuts, some revamping of the units will be required because of the changes that are needed IN the operation of the switching valves, the need for higher charging rates of feedstock and diluent gas to the adsorption section, and the expansion of the units for regeneration of the diluent gas and desorbent.
