In the past five years, Sinopec vigorously promoted high-quality exploration. In order to provide a basis for the development plan of the 14th Five-Year Plan, this paper summarizes the achievements in different exploration fields of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, and analyzes the new understandings of hydrocarbon accumulation theory and new technological progress. By developing the hydrocarbon accumulation theory, 'sweet-pot' prediction technology and low-cost engineering technology in the fields of marine carbonate rock of three great basins in the central and western region, tight gas and deep (greater than 3500m in depth) and normal pressure shale gas in Sichuan Basin, complex and subtle oil and gas reservoirs in the eastern mature exploration areas, and tight oil and gas in clastic rocks in the central and western regions, Sinopec discovered and cultivated two 100-million-ton-level oil and gas fields from carbonate rocks and shale gas in Tarim Shunbei Oilfield and Sichuan Fuling Gas Field, respectively, and expanded six large scale oil and gas reserves increasing positions of billion-ton-level. Through comprehensive study on the oil and gas resources at current status, the development ideas and measures for the 14th Five-Year Plan are defined: aiming at the high-quality development under the long-term low oil price, enhancing exploration efforts, expanding resource types, highlighting exploration in the whole play, paying attention to invigoration of low-grade resources, and accelerating major breakthroughs and discoveries. The goal is that the newly proven oil and gas geological reserves are 9.6×108t and 1.16×1012m3, respectively. To ensure the goal is achieved, five measures are put forward, which are continuously increasing exploration investment, increasing seismic exploration, strengthening risk exploration, enhancing scientific and technological innovation and improving engineering technology. © 2021, Petroleum Industry Press.
