Abstract
The standard method of test for pour point (ASTM D//9//7/IP//1//5) is imprecise and wasteful of manpower. At Esso Research Center, Abingdon, there is a demand for accurate measurement of large numbers of pour points and there was, therefore, considerable incentive for the development of automatic equipment capable of producing more reliable results than the manual method. The investigational work on a prototype and production instruments is discussed along with pour point data obtained on a wide range of products. The experimental data presented show that results obtained automatically are in close agreement with those obtained manually.
