Abstract
This review attempts to bring together the literature concerning the problems of disposal of metalworking fluids. The pollution problems encountered with the various components of these lubricants as well as the current methods of disposal are discussed. The treatment is concluded with a discussion of possible new methods that can be employed in the future to dispose of these products. These methods include the recycling of waste coolants and their conversion into new products such as greases, fuel oil, fertilizer and animal feed. Pollution problems and current methods and possible new techniques for disposal are discussed. These methods include the recycling of waste coolants and their conversion into new products such as greases, fuel oil, fertilizer and animal feed. Case histories are described, citing the conversion of waste cutting oils into bunker or fuel oil, petroleum emulsions into fertilizer and into animal feed.
