Abstract
Coal-based methanol to olefin technology is a "bridge" between the modern coal chemical industry and the petrochemical industry, supplying China's low-carbon olefins production with an opportunity to cut down relying on petroleum resource that is extremely deficit in China. Therefore, coal-based methanol to olefins route, as an alternative for petroleum-based olefins routes, has been developed and promoted rapidly in China. This paper analyzes methanol to olefin (MTO) technology and methanol to propylene (MTP) technology. The characteristics of four methanol-to-olefins technologyies including UOP/Hydro's MTO, ACS Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics' DMTO, Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry's SMTO and Shenhua's SHMTO, and two methanol-to-propylene technologies including Lurgi's MTP and Tsinghua University's FMTP are reviewed. Applications and development of MTO and MTP technologies in China are introduced. Finally, the development prospect of methanol to olefins is expected. © 2020, China National Chemical Information Center. All right reserved.
