Abstract
The index of environmental monitoring shows that generally the whole of the Vietnamese continental shelf can be regarded as unpolluted environment. The effects of petroleum exploration operations on the environment at present are generally temporary and minimal. The effects of operations from field appraisal, development drilling and petroleum production were recorded based on environmental supervision. Systematic environmental control and monitor will allow better operation and management and give timely and efficient measures in order to minimize environmental impacts from petroleum activities. The start of acknowledging signs of industrial pollution such as the inorganic elements found in the coastal areas of Vung Tau and Minh Hai are reported.
