Abstract
Research on biosurfactant activity of exogenous fungi against the Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH) degradation of oily sludge from Balongan was conducted. This research aimed to find out the ability of exogenous fungi to produce biosurfactant and to degrade TPH rate of oily sludge from Balongan. The method used is descriptive method with twice repetition which contains three steps. The first step is screening of biosurfactant-producing fungi from 9 isolates using Oil Spreading Assay. Second step is pH optimization for fungi’s best growth, and the last step is oily sludge degradation in Solid State Fermentation during 15 days. The results showed that Cladosporium sp. and Penicillium sp.7 produced the best biosurfactant out of 9 isolates. Each fungus has different optimum pH for their growth, Cladosporium sp. is optimum in pH 5,5 which Penicillium sp.7 optimum in pH 4,5. After 15 day of fermentation, Penicillium sp.7 is able to decrease TPH about 19.40% which Cladosporium sp. decrease TPH about 17.92%. © Global Science Publications.
