This investigation was undertaken to identify hazardous waste generators and the types of materials associated, and hazardous waste sites in a semi-rural area of northwest Pennsylvania. Information on hazardous waste sites, generators and substances used was obtained from environmental regulatory agencies. These data when compared to other studies of this nature from different locations in Northwest Pennsylvania suggest that some similar characteristics exist. Information presented on hazardous waste activities can be used by numerous groups as a mechanism for determining types of existing hazards and necessary requirements for protection of public health and the environment. Information on the current state of hazardous waste activities in local communities has not been well described in the literature.
