Phthalates, which are used in large quantities in building materials and consumer products, may lead to serious health risks for children. However, studies regarding the relationship between phthalates in house dust and children's allergies are still limited. The motivation for this study is to identify the association between house dust phthalates and preschool children's allergic rhinitis (AR) in the city of Baotou, Northwest China. Parental reported AR among 139 preschool children and six phthalates in house dust (from surfaces children could touch, called touched dust, and surfaces could not touch, called untouched dust, in the living room) were investigated in 2014-2015. Dose-response associations between phthalates and children's AR were only obtained for DEHP in untouched dust. No significant associations were found in phthalates levels for touched dust. This study provides useful information about the association between phthalates from different dust and children's AR in Northwest China. © 2018 15th Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2018.
