Abstract
Crawling-induced exposure to phthalates through inhalation of re-suspended particles was estimated by connecting the resuspension of dust with the partition of phthalates between settled dust and the flooring materials. The results suggested that infants may be exposed to extraordinarily high levels of phthalates when they are crawling on floorings containing those phthalates. The estimated intake of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) can be as high as 64.05 µg/kg/d, which greatly exceed the reference dose of DEHP. Further investigations on the influence of sorption kinetics showed that the increase of cleaning frequency can reduce the exposure to DEHP yet not to benzyl butyl phthalate (BBzP) and di-n-butyl phthalate (DnBP). The work provided novel understandings of human-activity associated exposure to phthalates. © 2018 15th Conference of the International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2018.
