Abstract
Benzimidazole ring is a useful synthon in medicinal chemistry and is a part of many biologically active compounds. This communication reports a mild and efficient approach for the synthesis of benzimidazole ring through oxidative cyclization of o-phenylenediamine and different aldehydes using dioxane dibromide, as a user-friendly reagent. This is a new, convenient and facile methodology for the synthesis of 2-substituted-1H-benzo[d]imidazoles.
