To investigate the pollution characteristics of phthalate esters (PAEs) in tobacco field soil in Henan Province, 203 soil samples were collected from 7 counties and six PAEs compounds including dimethyl phthalate (DMP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), di-n-octyl phthalate (DnOP) in samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The results showed that the detection frequency of PAEs in soil was high; DBP and DEHP were the main pollutants, with the average contents of 0.348 mg/kg and 0.131 mg/kg, respectively. According to the PAEs control standard of the USA, the over-standard rate of DBP and DMP was 97.8% and 5.42% in tobacco field soil of Henan province, respectively. Furthermore, there were significant differences of PAEs concentrations among 7 counties and 35 towns. DBP single-factor pollution index and PAEs comprehensive pollution index of tobacco fields were relatively higher in Yexian, Jian'an, Jiaxian and Xiangxian counties than in Lushi county. Soil DBP content was negatively correlated with pH value but positively correlated with soil protein index. The concentrations of DMP, DBP and PAEs in soil increased significantly after 4 years of continuous tobacco cropping compared with those in soil after 0-3 years of tobacco cropping. © 2021, Editorial Office Chinese Tobacco Society.
