Abstract
Densities and viscosities of the binary mixtures of 1,2-ethanediol with primary alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol and 1-butanol were measured at 293.15, 303.15 and 313.15 K and refractive index for same systems were measured at 303.15 K over the entire composition range. This experimental data were used to calculate excess molar volumes (V(E)), viscosity deviations (Delta eta) and refractive index deviations (Delta n(D)). These results were fitted to Redlich-Kister polynomial equation and results have been discussed in terms of molecular interaction and structural effects. The excess properties were found to be either positive or negative depending on the molecular interaction and the nature of liquid mixtures.
