Abstract
The transesterification reaction of dibasic esters (mixtures of dimethyl succinate, dimethyl adipate, and dimethyl glutarate) and dimethyl terephthalate with 1,4-butanediol was investigated in the temperature range from 190 to 210 degrees C without and with metal catalysts. The extent of reaction was followed by the measurement of output of methanol which was distilled from the reactor. The effect of reactants, catalysts, molar ratios, and temperature dependence on the transesterification reaction were also studied.
