Abstract
HEEP COPYRIGHT: BIOL ABS. A high number of positive patch tests with potassium dichromate was found in housewives with contact dermatitis. Patch tests with other substances were positive in a much smaller numer of patients. Chemical examination of a large number of detergents widely used in Israel showed that they all contained chromate. In a further study of this problem, a comparative study was made of the effectiveness of an anionic-exchanger for chrome ointment in cases of housewives' eczema. The anionic-exchanger ointment gave very good protection. Another standard silicone-containing ointment had a poor protective effect. These results confirmed those from previous studies and implicated chromates as the main factors causing allergic contact dermatitis in housewives' in Israel.
