Abstract
The chromatographic behaviour of twentyfour amino acids has
been studied on plain silica gel-G layers in one-component, two-component (butanol-acetic acid)
and three-component (acetone-benzene-acetic acid) mobile phases in varying ratios. The effects of
pH and composition of the mobile phase and also of the mole fraction of each component on R-F
values are discussed. The mechanism of migration is explained in terms of adsorption on silica
gel-G and the polarity of the mobile phase.
