Abstract
Procedures for the analysis of uranium-trioxide (1344587), uranium-tetrafluoride (10049146), and uranium-hexafluoride (7783815) are reviewed. Chemical and physical properties, synthetic routes, and important uses are briefly reviewed for each of these compounds. Techniques for chemical analysis are detailed. These include methods for determination or calculation of the amounts of uranium and many of the contaminants that may be present in samples of these materials. Techniques for spectrographic analysis of uranium-trioxide, uranium-tetrafluoride, uranium-hexafluoride and their contaminants are presented. Procedures for testing the physical properties of uranium-trioxide and uranium-tetrafluoride are given. To ensure uniform feed of materials for further processing, methods for determining bulk density, tapped density, and particle size of uranium-trioxide and uranium-tetrafluoride are delineated. A technique for measuring the reactivity of uranium-trioxide is also presented. Standards in the chemical and spectrographic analysis of all three compounds are discussed.
