Abstract
Acrylonitrile/acrylic acid copolymers were prepared by photo polymerization using the uranyl ion as a photo sensitizer. The copolymer composition was determined from the percent nitrogen in the copolymers. The comonomer reactivity ratios, determined by Kelen Tudos (KT) and non-linear error in variable (EVM) methods, are r(A) = 0.98 and r(B) = 3.79. The triad sequence distribution in terms of A and B centered triads have been obtained from C-13{H-1} NMR spectra of the copolymers. 2D proton detected H-1-C-13 heteronuclear shift correlation spectroscopy was used to assign the aliphatic protons in the H-1 NMR spectrum. 2D double quantum correlation (DQFCOSY) and total correlated (TOCSY) spectroscopy was used to assign the complex H-1 NMR spectrum to different compositional sequences. The Monte Carlo simulation (MC) was used to study the effect of degree of polymerization on the triad fractions. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
