According to news reporting originating from Washington, D.C., by VerticalNews journalists, a patent application by the inventors Pham, Hoanh Nang (Allentown, PA); Peng, Xiang-Dong (Orefield, PA); Nataraj, Shankar (Allentown, PA); Enever, Michael (Macungie, PA), filed on July 19, 2012, was cleared for further review on November 15, 2012. Preheating the combustion air helps to reduce the amount of fuel required for combustion in the reformer. Since less fuel is used, the flow of flue gases from the reformer is reduced resulting in less waste heat. "Use of a prereformer recycles heat from the flue gas back to the process by heating the prereformer effluent stream, thus reducing the required amount of combustion fuel in the reformer. Since less fuel is used, the flow of the flue gases from the reformer is reduced resulting in less waste heat.
