Very little toxicological information is available on some commonly used solvents. Since accidental contamination of large areas of clothing and skin is possible, it is important to know the order of acute toxicity by this route of exposure. We have examined five solvents recently and the results of these tests are presented. The solvents tested were teralin [1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene; CAS 119-64-2]; 1,4-dioxane [CAS 123-91-1]; triethylene glycol dimethyl ether [1,2-bis(methoxyethoxy) ethane, triglyme; CAS 112-49-2]; N-methyl pyrrolidone [1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone; CAS 872-50-4]; and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate [2-butynedioic acid, dimethyl ester, DMAD, CAS 762-42-5].
